About AGRITRADE Uganda Exports
Uganda has one of the world's fastest-growing and youngest populations, a market-based economy that is abundant in natural resources. According to The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) the agriculture sector is primarily based on subsistence or smallholder production which employs 68% of the workforce and represents 24.1% of GDP, grew by 4.3% in FY 2021/22.
AGRITRADE Uganda was founded to encourage trade beyond boarders and the growth of agricultural businesses in Uganda so that we bridge the gap through collaboration and preparation of small and medium Size Enterprises in the agricultural sector for continued quality production to compete on the international market.
Since we have established resilience and buffer capacity relationships with some international food and agricultural promoters and merchants, more global markets are now accessible to Ugandan farmers, producers, and exporters. However, the majority of our exporters have been dealing in agricultural product as raw commodities; just a small portion of our exporters have added value before shipping. This is in contrast to our projection, which calls for us to work with various stakeholders to create and produce high-quality, exclusively Ugandan-branded organic agricultural goods in an effort to support the Buy Uganda, Build Uganda strategy.
According to UBOS, the United Arab Emirates ($1.05 billion), Kenya ($534 million), and South Sudan ($481 million) were Uganda's top three exporters of products and services in 2021. During that time, Uganda exported goods and services worth $68.6 million to the United States.
The top three reasons to trade and invest in Uganda:
- Large and Growing Consumer Market: The World Bank estimates that Uganda's annual population growth rate of around 3% is among the highest in the world. Nearly four out of five Ugandans are under the age of 30, and half are under the age of 15, making Uganda one of the youngest countries in the world.
- Dynamic Agricultural Market: The majority of Uganda is covered by a bimodal agricultural system, which makes use of the abundant fertile land and good climatic conditions.
- EAC Customs Union and AFCFTA Program: Uganda's participation in the EAC Customs Union, along with the current creation of the Africa Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA), which has united 55 African nations to trade with one another, has made intra-African trade possible across the regional economic communities and the continent as a whole.

- Identify and Equipping the Small holder with modern farming techniques visive the global market
- To integrate small holder farmers with value chain firms to add value on Ugandan agricultural products for market readiness.
- Improving small holder farmers welfare and live hood through improving nutritional standards for the betterment of health.
- Encourage the youth and women involvement in the agricultural sector hence by minimizing the congestion of urban centers and other associated problems in society.
